وقال الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة، أنطونيو غوتيريش: “هذا يخالف الوعد الذي تم قطعه قبل ست سنوات لتحقيق هدف 1.5 درجة مئوية لاتفاقية باريس. الفشل في تحقيق هذا الهدف سيقاس من خلال الخسائر الفادحة في الأرواح وسبل العيش”.
وأضاف غوتيريش، مخاطبًا القادة في منتدى الاقتصادات الكبرى هذا الصباح، إن مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة للمناخ في نوفمبر/ تشرين الثاني، الذي سيجتمع خلاله قادة العالم لمناقشة أهداف الانبعاثات، ينطوي على “مخاطر عالية للفشل”.
في بيانه حول التقرير، حث غوتيريش جميع البلدان على تقديم أهداف مناخية أكثر طموحًا من شأنها أن تخلق مسارًا أكثر جدوى إلى 1.5 درجة. كما حث الدول المتقدمة على المضي قدمًا في وعد 100 مليار دولار لمدة عشر سنوات لدعم البلدان النامية في التزاماتها.
